Physician Says Pediatric Hypertension Becoming More Common.

In an interview with Medscape Share to FacebookShare to Twitter (10/23, Brown), S. Lindsey Clarke, MD, FAAFP, spoke about pediatric hypertension. In an editor's note accompanying the article, Medscape notes that "pediatric hypertension is becoming more common, and family physicians could be missing it, according to a presentation at the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) 2012 Scientific Assembly in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania." During the interview, Dr. Clarke discussed why pediatric hypertension is important for family physicians. Clarke remarked that the condition is becoming more common, stating, "We normally think of it as a disease just for adults, but as children become more sedentary and more overweight, hypertension is becoming a lot more common among [this population]." He later states, that family physicians "probably do not recognize it as often as they should."
