MedPage Today (12/14, Gever) reported that, according to a study published online Dec. 13 in the Archives of Ophthalmology, "women who exercise, eat right, and don't smoke could cut their risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD) by more than two-thirds." In a study encompassing "1,313 women ages 55 to 74 at baseline," researchers found that, "compared with sedentary smokers who ate lots of fatty processed foods, participants...who had healthy lifestyle habits were found to have an adjusted odds ratio of 0.29 for developing AMD over a six-year span."
